Well done to all our competitors in the 2012 Chirk Sprint triathlon. Many thanks to our loyal marshals, cadets & guides who took time out to help all day.
Although weather forecasts from earlier in the week included snow, the race took place on a cold but sunny day. The sub-zero overnight temperatures meant that early starters had quite chilly conditions, with many pulling on long-sleeved jerseys and gloves for the bike section. However, the weather warmed up a bit and, by the end of the day, we had just about perfect conditions for the elite athletes. Paul Hawkins overcame 2011 winner, Chris Standidge, knocking nearly a minute of his 2011 time to regain his title, with Peter Brooks taking the last step on the podium; all three athletes going under the hour for the race. Dominique Searle retained the ladies title, followed by Bethan Hughes and Julie Moore.
For the first time, we also saw a large contingent of Welsh junior squad members racing. These are the elite athletes of the future and we look forward to seeing them take their places in ITU races in a few years time, retaining the dominance of UK Triathlon on the World stage.

Finally, a big thank you to the race organising committee for putting on another excellent race, and our very best wishes to Paul "Willy" Williams and his family for their new life down under |

Start times for the Chirk Sprint Triathlon are available online here - please check your details and make a note of your start time. This is the time at which you are due to start swimming; remember to leave yourself plenty of time to register and get ready, before getting your bike racked and other necessary kit placed next to it in transition. Please be aware that the transition area will be crowded a busy, so only the essential kit that you will require for the race (i.e. bike / run equipment & clothing) should be taken into the transition area. Please don't bring huge bags or boxes full of stuff that will only get in the way!
Remember that your bike must be roadworthy, with two working brakes and a freewheeling rear wheel (i.e. "fixies" are not permitted) and that an approved (BS EN 1078 or equivalent) cycle helmet is mandatory. You must be wearing your helmet - securely fastened - before you remove your bike from the rack to start the cycle section and must not remove your helmet again until your bike is racked back in place after the cycle section.
More details can be found in the "On The Day Info" section of this website, or click here.
