|Chirk Sprint Triathlon 2012|

Well done to all our competitors in the 2012 Chirk Sprint triathlon. Many thanks to our loyal marshals, cadets & guides who took time out to help all day.
Although weather forecasts from earlier in the week included snow, the race took place on a cold but sunny day. The sub-zero overnight temperatures meant that early starters had quite chilly conditions, with many pulling on long-sleeved jerseys and gloves for the bike section. However, the weather warmed up a bit and, by the end of the day, we had just about perfect conditions for the elite athletes. Paul Hawkins overcame 2011 winner, Chris Standidge, knocking nearly a minute of his 2011 time to regain his title, with Peter Brooks taking the last step on the podium; all three athletes going under the hour for the race. Dominique Searle retained the ladies title, followed by Bethan Hughes and Julie Moore.
For the first time, we also saw a large contingent of Welsh junior squad members racing. These are the elite athletes of the future and we look forward to seeing them take their places in ITU races in a few years time, retaining the dominance of UK Triathlon on the World stage.
