WRECSAM TRIATHLON RACE INFORMATION

Wrecsam Triathlon Club is proud to organise three of the premier races in the country. Bridging the triathlon season from April to September, the three races are set in a variety of superb venues across a range of distances. The Chirk sprint distance race is held in the County of Wrexham whilst the Bala Middle and Bala Standard distances are held in Gwynedd. The club is justifiably proud of the quality and challenge of its races, working on the principle that they are races run by triathletes for triathletes.

Chirk Triathlon                         28th April 2013

The first race of the season for many, Chirk has established a solid reputation across the Wales and the Northwest, being selected as the British Universities and the Welsh Championships. The race has been oversubscribed since 2004, more recently filling by as early as December. The high spot of the race is the superb bike leg which takes competitors along the beautiful Ceiriog valley.

Bala Middle Distance                9th June 2013

A big challenge set in an outstanding location, three times serving as the National Middle Distance championships, Bala Lake in June must be one of the most impressive venues for a longer distance event. The race revolves around the lake with the bike traversing large parts Snowdonia National Park and the run following the lake shoreline before a brutal climb into the foothills of the Arans. Not a race for the fainthearted, all who have finished this event know that they are on their way to further adventures in long distance triathlon.

Bala Standard Distance              8th September 2013

The last big race of the season in the UK, Bala Standard draws hundreds of triathletes year on year, having been the Welsh Championships and twice a World Qualifier as well as a regular European Qualifier. Waves of two-hundred strong set out across the lake with Aran Fawddy in the distance. The bike is very fast as competitors fly down towards Dolgellau on a closed road, out-and-back course. The run follows the same route as the bike, allowing unrivalled access for spectators to cheer their friends and relations. As a celebration of a season's racing, the race is superb, set in a town that really welcomes triathletes.
